THIS IS A MARTIAL ART FOUND IN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL.
THIS IS A UNIQUE ART WHICH FOCUSES ON SPEED AND ACCURACY. IT RESEMBLES FENCING AND SABER FIGHTING.

FILIPINOS WHO FOUGHT THE SPANISH ADAPTED THEIR WAY OF FIGHTING TO COUNTER THE SPANISH SWORD.
THE AUTHOR IS STUDYING UNDER MASTER GAYOLES AND IS IMPRESSED OF HIS SPEED AND SKILL ON THE ART ,YASAY SABLE.

THE SECOND VIDEO CLIP IS ABOUT OIDO DE CABURATA
THIS ART IS FOUND IN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL SPECIFICALLY IN MURCIA AND IN MAAO.
THIS UNIQUE ART HAS NO NUMBERED STRIKES AS COMPARED TO OTHER STICK ARTS. IT CONSISTS OF THEORIES OF HITTING. EXAMPLE "PASULOD AND PAGWA" THIS MEANS TO GO OUT AND TO GO IN. IN "PASULOD" YOUR WEAPON HITS IN THE INSIDE WHILE "PAGWA" HITS ON THE OUTSIDE.

HOLY THURSDAY 2006 TAPADO CLINIC

WRITTEN BY RAYMUND ANTONIO MAGUAD PTRP MD
THIS VIDEO WAS TAKEN ON HOLY THURSDAY 2006 IN MY HOUSE IN MURCIA, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL. MURCIA IS A MUNICIPALITY IN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL. A PART OF WESTERN VISAYAS,REGION 6 OF THE PHILIPPINES.

IN THE VIDEO ARE TAPADISTAS ENJOYING THE HOLY WEEK WITH A LIGHT PRACTICE. EVERY HOLY THURSDAY WE CELEBRATE THE LAST SUPPER OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE CATHOLIC FILIPINOS. IN OUR HOUSE WE USUALLY HAVE A RE-ENACTMENT OF THE LAST SUPPER DURING LUNCH TIME.
My fellow doctors were present. They compose the core members of CMAS (Conceptual Martial Arts Society) Iloilo City. They are Dr. Rey Mollenido( Head Tuburan Chapter, Iloilo), Dr. Jason Rojas(Head Texas. USA), and Dr. Eugene Alicante. The head of the Iloilo Chapter is Dr. Raymund Antonio A. Maguad(author). My guests were GM Benfredo Lobrido(Headmaster -ORIGINAL FILIPINO TAPADO), GM Elmer Montoyo Sr.(Filipino Tang Soo Do/Senior Instructor OFT), Senior Instructor Hans Alojado, SI James Sy, Jr., SI Joefrey Deriada and Moises"Jung-Jung" Nifras.
GM Lobrido gave us a Tapado Clinic to polish our strikes. He taught us how to improve our speed, strength and skill.
Tapado is a simple but effective art. It is easy to learn.
Tapado videos are available in VCD format. Tapado sticks are also available. Tapado sticks are made of "tula-tula", coffee, and "calamasi" wood. They are the ones used by Tapadistas because of their resiliency and durability.
Tapado Classes are available to all. Refer to the author's past articles on Tapado for more information.

LOBRIDO-MAMAR RENUNION IN KAFT TREES,MURCIA, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL

The members of the Original Filipino Tapado Longstick Fighting Association were invited in the Mamar-Lobrido Family reunion in Kaft Trees, Murcia, Negros Occidental to perform an exhibition. They were invited by Grandmaster Benefredo Lobrido . We enjoyed the food and the warm reception of the family. We are thankful to our Grandmaster to have invited us to their family reunion. We are honored to be your students. Here is a video clip showing GM Lobrido and Senior instructor Elmer "Don-Don" P. Montoyo Jr doing basics of Original Filipino Tapado. GM Lobrdio is feeding the stick to SI Montoyo. SI Montoyo is the one attacking/ practicing his strikes. This is risky for the feeder(GM Lobrido) since he has no armor and there is always a risk of getting hit . The strikes are given in full speed and strength.
This is a video clip taken by me before the exhibition started. This is Kaft Trees, Murcia, Negros Occidental.

Some basic things about the Visayas

THE PHILIPPINES : WESTERN VISAYAS

MOUNTAIN SYSTEMS:

Negros in the Visayas is divided into two by a range running from northwest to southeast, with Kanlaon Volcano as the notable peak. Panay has a range running from north to south that separates Antique from Iloilo , Capiz and Aklan.

GOOD FILIPINO VALUES

  1. HOSPITALITY
  2. CLOSE FAMILY TIES
  3. RESPECT FOR THE ELDERS
  4. FATALISTIC
  5. LOYALTY
  6. PAKIKISAMA

REGIONAL TRAITS:

The islands south and south west of Luzon belong to the Visayan. He is a happy-go-lucky man more interested in the here and now than in the past or the future. He exceeds the Tagalog in his love for the finer things of life, so much so that, in contrast with the Samtoy, he is ready to spend his last peso to enjoy life to its last drop. Because his is not compelled by his environment to work half as much as his Samtoy brother, the Visayan is a spendthrift. But like his brother in the north, he is adventurous and is afflicted with wanderlust.

The Visayan is a hedonist. Give him a jug of tuba and a piece of dried fish he will sing the wilderness into Paradise . He is a lover like the Tagalog, but he expresses his consuming passion in music, not in poetry. Thus, armed with a banduria, a ukulele or a guitar, he forgets his sorrows, even his hunger, if he is poor, by caressing the strings of his musical instrument and singing to its accompaniment.
